Who Are You Going to Listen To?

Do you feel bombarded by voices around you?  How about those voices in your head?  Where do they come from?  Do you ever hear God’s voice in your spirit or does it just mix with the other voices?

Our world is full of voices from media telling us how we should look, what we should wear, what products would be best for us, what shows we should watch…if we don’t, we are inferior and have no clue what is “the best”.

When political elections are on the horizon, we are bombarded by loud emotional pleas to vote for particular candidates who truly “care about us” and issues that can pull at our heartstrings as well.  Who do we listen to and who makes the most sense in our world today?

The issue of religious beliefs brings even more voices as we see the differences of doctrines, which Bible translations to use, which hot shot preacher can grab our attention the most and how can we really be sure we are headed to Heaven someday.

Devastating voices from our past can keep us angry and depressed; feeling like we don’t matter or belong.  They usually will override any positive messages we hear about a job well done or any compliments throughout our lives.  Remember the old saying, “Sticks and stones can break my bones, but words will never hurt me”?  That isn’t true at all, is it?

You may still be hearing the voices of parents, peers, past loves, siblings, etc.  “You will never amount to anything!”  “I wish you had never been born!”  “No other man will ever want you, so you might as well stay with me.”  “You are so stupid!  Why can’t you get better grades like your sister?”  These words stung when they were said, but left scars on your heart and your self-worth that would follow you all of your life. Those voices may have completely covered what God’s voice says about you and you are longing to hear Him again.

Well, listen to this….

  • “Peace I leave with you;  My peace I give you,  I do not give to you as the world gives.  Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”  John 14:27
  • “Though my father and my mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me. Psalm 27:10
  • “For great is His love toward us, and the faithfulness if the Lord endures forever. “Psalm 17:2

This is the voice of God’s Word.  Let His voice speak louder to your soul than the voices of flawed human beings in your past.  We either put value in what the Almighty God is saying or we listen to lies from the pit of hell.  Who are you going to listen to today…and tomorrow…and the next day?
