Life is spinning fast and there are a lot of potholes, mountains, and valleys to walk through and try to survive. Where is God in all of it? Why does He allow all of the heartache in the world? Does He care about the crisis you are going through?
Most of the time, we are so busy trying to survive and move from day to day, that we don’t even notice Him or how He provides for us. We, as human beings, tend to just press on, ignore the issues that we have let define us, and do anything but look up.
To tell you the truth, whether we look up to Him or not, He is still there. He didn’t turn His back on us, nor does anything get by Him. Just look around. Notice His creation instead of your circumstances. Just for a few minutes. The green trees, the flower in your yard, the sun beaming down on your face, the water rushing in a river. He made that and He made that for us to notice and enjoy. He has never changed; we have.
Are you an optimist or a pessimist? Most pessimists will say, with pride, “I am a realist.” Do you see that perfect rose or do you see the weeds around it? Do you see the beauty of the ocean or do you see that one piece of trash on the beach? Do you see what God has provided for you or do you continually see what you don’t have? Hmmmm.
Sometimes, we take the role of a martyr and think everyone is against us…our family, our spouse, the government, “liberals” or “conservatives”, DHS, Christians or non-Christians, people in our church, etc. etc. etc. Stop! Where do we see God in all of that negativity? Others don’t want to hear our constant complaining or groaning. Why should they suffer like us, right?
Take some time, beginning today, to look around, notice the good in your life, and be grateful. Maybe you can start writing down the things you are grateful for in a journal.
I wrote my latest book, “Visions of Him” to remind us all to notice God in everyday things. There are 45 two-page devotionals so you can begin each day with thoughts of Him. There are scriptures to read, but I didn’t include them written out, because I, as the author, wanted you to put your hands on a Bible, turn the pages with your own fingers, and underline or highlight the scriptures that stand out to you. Make His Word precious to you.
I pray that readers will take the time to reflect on the goodness of God, and then begin to notice God throughout the day on their own. He is a mighty God, He loves you, and walks with you throughout your day. Notice Him. Where is He??? All around you, so just look.
“Surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” John 28:20
