Sticks and Stones

sticks and stones

“Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.”  WRONG!  You can usually repair a broken bone, but you may never heal from damaging words.  Words like, “It’s all your fault!”  “You will never make anything of yourself.”  “No one will ever want to marry you.”  ” You are …ugly, fat, lazy, stupid, worthless, etc…………….”

Do you remember hearing some or all of those words while you were growing up?  Do you remember words of encouragement or discouragement?  Words of love or hatred? Looking back, can you see the damage they have had on your life up to this point?

A child growing up in a harsh environment will usually suffer from them all of their life if they don’t find strong healing.  Maybe an adult with such a background will have great anger issues, or depression, poor self-worth, fear, be afraid of rejection and then wonder why they are unable to have long-lasting relationships.  Is that you?  Have you tried to stuff it deep in your soul, tried to forget about it, but can’t?

Well, we all have “stuff” to work through from our past.  Maybe your childhood was filled with abuse of every kind and now you stand today, wondering what your worth is and how anyone could completely love you.

First of all, let’s get to the basics…God made you in your mother’s womb (Ps. 139) and has given you gifts and talent uniquely for you to use and enjoy.  He didn’t cause your parents or others to hurt you, but for some reason He allowed it.  The enemy controlled your abusers and chances are, they were abused as well and passed their issues onto you.  They  may not have found healing, but you can.  This is YOUR life and YOU can make it what you want.  How about today?

Please go to, and read about the book I wrote, “Chained Mo More.”  It is a 13 chapter book and workbook that will lead you through the healing process from exploring how your childhood affected you, to bringing you to hope and healing, and then it gives you practical tools to help you toward a future of freedom.  It can be painful, but it is worth every page, as you find yourself healing and find you are turning into “THE NEW YOU.”  You can do it alone, with a friend or spouse, or in a group.  There is even a group curriculum with a Leader’s Guide and Participant Book!  Check it out today!
