Peace in the Valley

When is the last time you felt total peace in your life?  You could sit, stand or lay with your heart and mind at rest?  This reminds me of being a little girl and laying out on the grass on a warm summer’s day and staring up at the clouds.  My sister and I would try to imagine big elephants or little wispy fairies in the clouds we saw in the sky.  We would laugh and giggle when we would see a “cloud puppy” begin to emerge out of the billowy white masses.

There are times I feel at peace now, but my mind is usually resting in who the Lord is in my life and all of His goodness.  Sitting on a beach, on the front of our boat, sitting by a raging fire, watching our kids enjoy their lives, or just sitting in the hot tub with my Ivan on a rainy night.  The more peaceful I feel, the deeper my breaths become. The tension leaves my neck and shoulders.  “Peace, peace, wonderful peace, coming down from the Father above.”  That hymn, “Wonderful Peace”, was my father’s favorite hymn and the meaning is clear.

“A heart at peace gives life to the body…”  Proverbs 14:30

“…seek peace and pursue it.”  Psalms 34:14

“Let the peace if Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace.  And be thankful.”  Colossians 3:16

With the busyness and burdens of life,  find, no, MAKE some time to sit still in His presence.  Maybe play calming music about Him, drink a cup of tea, purposely breathe deeply and spend some time peacefully thanking Him for loving you.  He is there.  He hears you.  He knows you.  He loves you just the way you are.  Feel His peace.

Find His peace today and surround yourself with it.  If you are going through some trauma or crisis or if you are generally just not happy about your life right now, make seeking His peace a priority every day.  Let Him soothe your soul and find peace in the valley.

“Peace, peace, wonderful peace.”
