Just For Fun

fun

Life sure has been getting serious lately, hasn’t it?  The headlines shout about murders, politics, natural disasters and doom.  Locally, we hear about all kinds of crimes, so we can become very insecure about even leaving our homes.

Summer is almost over and I think it is time to step away from the stress and chaos and have some fun.  Real fun!  Fun like  having a pillow fight, going to a crazy fun movie, dancing in the living room to our favorite genre of music, going to an outdoor concert, hiking up a mountain (not so much fun for me), having a game night with a bunch of friends, making smores, going to a river or a lake and floating on an intertube.  There are endless ways to set the “junk” aside and become a “kid” again.  We need to lighten up!  Do you agree?

“Laughter is the best medicine”, as the saying goes.  When was the last time you belly-laughed?  When was the last time you had fun?  When was the last time you could forget about your troubles and really have fun?  Being an adult can really be hard and life can suck the joy right out of us, can’t it?  Let’s see what God’s Word says about this.

“Sing for joy to God our strength; shout aloud to the God of Jacob!”  Psalm 81:1

“The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him and I am helped.  My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to Him in song. ” Psalm 28:7

Fun and happiness can come from having that pillow fight or a game night with food, friends, family, etc.  True joy comes from the Lord from the inside out.  “The joy of the Lord is my strength.”  Remember that?

If we truly have His joy in our souls, we can look at those newspaper headlines or walk through the struggles of life knowing that He is in control and will guide us through all of it.  Now, THAT is fun and THAT is the joy of the Lord!  LOL!
