“It’s To Die For!”

The other day, I was scrolling through Facebook posts and came across another picture of food.  This time it was a chicken recipe that someone posted…. “This is to DIE for”.  That brought a smile to my face because I thought, “How is a piece of chicken worth dying for?  Seriously?”

Over the years, I have heard people use that expression about food, clothes, stores, vacation spots, a nice-looking guy, etc.  To DIE for?

What are your willing to truly DIE for?  What is important enough to you that you would actually be willing to end your life for?  Your child, your spouse, your country, your beliefs, your rights, your freedom, your material possessions, your Bible……what?  Would you DIE for your friend?  Would you take a risk with your life to surrender a kidney for someone who desperately needed it?  Strong questions that make me think as I sit at this computer.  Would I jump in front of a car to save another?  Hmmmm.

The ultimate example of this is that Jesus DIED for you and me.  In doing that, He said, “Robyn  (insert your name here) was ‘to DIE for’.”  John 15:14  “Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.”    I John 3:16  “This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down His life for us.”

So, the next time you taste an amazing piece of chicken or a decadent piece of chocolate cake, think, between bites, “Is this really  to DIE for?”  Just a thought.
