Help! I’m in a Rut!

It is so easy to get caught in a rut and do the same things day after day and year after year.  We enjoy our family traditions, the same stores, and the same restaurants.  We listen to the same music and take the same routes to get places.  We go to the same hotels on the same vacation trips.  We make virtually the same meals at home and use the same brand of toothpaste, soap, laundry, detergent and food items.

When is the last time you took a entirely different route to church or to work?  What would happen if you tried a different type of butter or listened to an entirely different genre of music?  Would you collapse?  Would you cry?  Would you be miserable?

This is a big world and if we limit ourselves to just a certain way of doing things, we will miss out on experiences that could broaden our life in endless ways.  I know people who have never EVER left their county in all of their lives!  Part of it is fear of the unknown and a lack of familiarity.  Some of it is lack of knowledge of what it is like outside of their comfort zone.  Imagine what it could be like for them if they would take a chance and step outside the box and venture into a new experience.  Wow!

Personally, I love travelling to different countries and discovering other cultures.  I am not a “rut person”, but I am a huge fan of family traditions.  I love meeting new people, but I also value my close friends.  I enjoy almost all genres of music, even though I do have my favorite (black gospel praise and jazz).  I enjoy shopping and looking at everything that is out there for sale, even though I don’t have to buy every time.  My husband and I like to go to a variety of restaurants and try new ones out, even though we do have our favorites.

.

My motto for life is, “Live life to the fullest and take people with you.”  Starting today and try to think about doing something completely out of the ordinary rut for you.  Start with something small, like taking a drive out of town with a friend, enjoying the scenery and trying a little café.  Enjoy His creation.  Step out of your rut and broaden your life experiences.  Ready. Set. Go!!
