Giving God a Piece of My Mind

Anger at God

Have you ever been mad at God for allowing something to happen to you?  Have you blamed Him for circumstances in your life or the loss of someone you loved?  When we look around our society today and see violence, abuse, abortions, wars, attacks, and high rates of shattered families, do we raise our eyes to God and ask, “Why are You letting this happen, God?  Don’t You care?  What kind of god would let innocent lives be so damaged and even destroyed?

Looking at personal circumstances, God didn’t cause all of it; flawed human beings did.  The enemy is hard at work today, isn’t he?  We may never know why God has allowed something, but one thing is for sure;  He is there to help us through it by providing His strength and comfort.  My dad used to say, “We human beings have pea brains.  We will never understand the big picture or what lies ahead, but our faith in the Almighty God needs to give us answers and strength through His Word.”

It helps me to talk out loud to the Lord, just like my father used to do on a daily basis.  God knows our thoughts already, because He is all-knowing, but there are a couple of great benefits to talking out loud to Him.

  1. When we vent and cry our heart out to Him, we hear ourselves and what is emotionally locked up inside.  “God, I am so angry at her right now!  I can’t take it anymore!  I feel so belittled by her and want to just give up!

BENEFIT:  We can see how we are allowing another flawed human being influence how we feel about ourselves instead of realizing our worth needs to come ONLY from who God says we are as His child.  When we hear ourselves say we want to give up, we are telling God that He is not big enough to help us through it.

2.   When we cry out to Him, we can admit that He is bigger than we are and bigger than what we are experiencing.  We can acknowledge His truths, such as “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”  David, the psalmist said, ” Give ear to my words, O Lord, consider my sighing.  Listen to my cry for help, my King and my God, for to You I pray. ” Psalm 5:1-2  Read on in this passage for more of David’s crying out to the Lord.

BENEFIT:  We can be given comfort and peace inside, knowing there is a Heavenly Father who cares about us and will never leave us.  We can trust Him and have faith in His plans.

The Psalms are filled with passages like this, where David moans and petitions the Lord, but he always ends with praise of who God is and His holiness.  Think about that.  Are you so caught up in what is happening in your life that you can’t see the God who knows, loves, and cares about you the most?  Let Him guide you.  Let Him love you.

Give God a piece of your mind.  He can take it and He understands, but then listen to what He brings to your heart and mind.   Shhhhhh.  Let Him soothe you and guide you to His healing.
