Have you ever stood out on an ocean beach, feeling small in the vastness of what you see? The endless miles of waves, long stretches of sand, and the wide open sky completely surrounding you, can give such a sense of freedom without boundaries.
On the other end of the spectrum, we can feel completely overpowered when we are surrounded by the walls and boundaries of insecurity. We feel overtaken and controlled and there is now freedom at all.
The same goes for situations in life. When we become controlled by schedules, others’ expectations, voices from our past, and responsibilities, we lose the freedom and joy of just being, as we shrink back and isolate behind more walls.
Insecurities come from what other people and situations have told us and we begin to “wear” their words as our identity. Instead of opening our arms wide to freedom in Christ, like the picture above, we begin to fold our arms to protect ourselves. We retreat back to feel safe.
Is today the day to begin to rise out of that tight, constricted space?
“I waited patiently for the Lord; He turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the Lord. ” Psalm 40:1-3
There is certainly a difference between “feeling small” because of insecurity brought on by the enemy and “feeling small” in comparison to the Lord God who loves us and cherishes us. One is restrictive and the other is pure freedom; freedom in Christ. “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, THERE. IS. FREEDOM.” 2 Cor. 3:17
We have a BIG and everlasting God. We may feel small and insignificant compared to Him, but we are not small and significant in His eyes or heart.
