“Diamonds are forever…forever…forever…” Remember that haunting song from the 007 movie starring Sean Connery and Jill St. John? Agent 007 with his dark suit and perfect hair, the women half-dressed, the shiny pistols, daredevil stunts that made James Bond look like he could do anything and never die, the villains and the kissing…oh, the kissing.
Researching how long diamonds last, I found that they do not last forever, like the song says. They do, however, last a very long time. They do spontaneously react to form graphite (the stuff in your pencil). Wow! The things we learn on Google, huh?
The diamonds I wear in my wedding ring and a few other pieces of jewelry delight me, but I do know I won’t be taking them to Heaven when I go to meet Jesus. They sparkle here on earth, but He is the One who will shine like no other. Priceless!
“I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its Lamp. The nations will walk by its light and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it. On no day will its gates ever be shut, for there will be no night there.” Rev. 21:22-25
Now, that is eternity at its finest! Earthly diamonds are but a minute speck in value next to the glory of God. My father always said “we humans have pea brains” and we cannot comprehend Heaven or the glory of God and I believe Him. All I know, is that I want to serve the Lord here on earth until He calls me home and spend eternity with him FOREVER. Diamonds are forever? Not really, but our eternity is assured with Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.
Next time you look at a diamond, let your mind wander to living forever with Him and if you are ready to spend forever with Him. Priceless!
