Daddy’s Arms

What do these pictures say to you?  Do they bring back warm memories of your father, the security of his hug, the strong, but gentle hands of a man who worked hard for your family?   OR

Are these pictures nothing but a dream or bring you to sadness because it is not even close to what you experienced in your family?  Every family is different, with different issues, whether it is because of divorce,  trauma, addictions, etc.

Like Dr. Phil says, “Even God can’t change the past.”  You may have had a wonderfully loving father who valued you and made you feel valuable.  You may not have, but have always wished you could have.

For those of you who were blessed with a father who treated you well and is still alive, hang on to him and build memories with him, because someday, he won’t be here to answer your phone call or receive your hugs.  If your father has passed on, spend some time remembering the good times and how he made you feel and be grateful.

For those of you who did not have that type of father, ask the Lord God to heal and soothe your heart and to not hold onto bitter feelings.  Your dad had his own hurts and damage.  He, no doubt, carried that trauma into his adulthood and brought it onto you.  It affected you, but it wasn’t about you.  If he wasn’t shown love, chances are, he didn’t know how to give it.  Find the place in your heart to forgive him and if he is still living, pray that he will find healing for his heart too.

God, our Heavenly Father knows you.  He sees you.  He loves you with an unconditional love.  THIS Father will not walk away, hurt you, yell at you, abuse you, ignore you,or treat you like you are nothing.  THIS Father does not keep records of all our mistakes and bad decisions.  THIS Father loves us for exactly who He made us to be.  We don’t need to be perfect to come to Him.

Raise your eyes, open your arms, and let Him love you.  His eyes are on you and His arms are open wide to receive you.  Go to His Word, take your time, find all He says about you and about his perfect love for you.  Begin with Psalm 139 today.  Read it out loud because it is about YOU.
