Child’s Play

It’s summer!  The sun’s out, the sky is blue, city pools are filled with children laughing, screaming, and splashing, and the ice cream trucks are making their way through the neighborhoods.  I love this time of year!  Everything just seems so happy and carefree.

I remember when I was a kid (back in the daaaaark ages!), that my brother, sisters, and I would spend most of our time outside playing in tree forts in Alaska, running in the woods playing hide and seek, riding our bikes by the hour and never worrying about what was around the corner, or if there were dangerous people nearby.  We made our own Koolaid popsicles in ice cub trays, had watermelon spitting contests, swam in the Puget Sound in Bremerton, WA,  and had picnics in the yard.  Life was good for the Bellville family.

I am grateful for a childhood that centered around a healthy family, our church, and our neighborhood friends.  That, however, is not the case for many families.  In our local “Chained No More” classes, I hear disturbing stories of  childhoods filled with anger, abuse, divorce, shattered families, and unhappiness.  When I led our single parent family ministry for 12 years, I saw the pain of the children as their families shattered.  They didn’t know where they belonged, or who they should be more loyal to; mom or dad.  They saw a lot of turmoil and trauma played out before them on a daily basis.

That is why I wrote the book, “Chained No More…A Journey of Healing for Adult Children of Divorce/Childhood Brokenness.”  There are millions of adults who experienced a traumatic childhood and still carry the effects of it.  Effects such as mistrust, anger, depression, abandonment, betrayal and self-image issues still cloud them today.

Men and women around the country are now finding “Chained No More” to be the resource they need to find healing once and for all from the effects of their past.  Their relationships are improving, their marriages are taking a 180 degree turn, and they have more confidence as they find out who God made them to be and not what their past keeps defining them as.  Hallelujah!
